Basic Lap Steel Guitar This is a very streamlined Lap Steel guitar, based on the concept popularized by Weissenborn, where the body cavity extends along the entire instrument. The distinguishing feature of any lap steel guitar is that the strings are raised at both the nut and bridge ends of the fingerboard to about half an inch. Lark's Lap Steel features 24 fret markers, a 23 inch string length, zither pin tuners at the tail of the instrument and uses loop-end medium guitar strings. This is a great lap steel for learning and it can be tuned to any of the common Lap Steel tunings, including the E7 tuning used in the Mel Bay Steel Guitar Method. Buy one for every tuning you use! Play it on a Lark Dulcimer Table and it sounds like a full sized Guitar Body Lap Steel costing hundreds more. 30" long, 4.5" wide, and 2.25 " deep. Includes tuning wrench.

Tuning:

Most Dobro players use what a Hawaiian would call G "high bass" tuning, GBDGBD.

Old Hawaiian Players used many tunings, here are a few:

A low bass: EAEAC#E.
A high bass: AC#EAC#E.
D tuning: DADF#AD.
E tuning: EBEG#BE.
Bm (G maj7): GBDF#BD.
Bm7 (D6) : F#ADF#BD.
G6 (low): GBDEGB.
G6 (high): BDEGBD (our favorite tuning!).
E7: BDEG#BE.

MANY other tunings are used!
